Copyediting

They make sure that the text is consistent and technically accurate:

• spelling, grammar, and punctuation are accurate and consistent

• the text is written in clear, idiomatic English

• the facts are accurate

• all elements of the text (headings, names, terminology, etc.) are accurate and consistent

• all elements of the text are formatted consistently and according to a publisher’s house style and/or general style guide

 

Proofreading

They review the proofs of the text to make sure that they are ready for publication. They will check for:

• Spelling errors

• Other errors in the text (grammar, punctuation, missing text, repeated text, etc.)

• Consistency problems

• Layout errors or problems
